Bolsa de Estudo ·Gestionada por Direção-Geral do Ensino Superior
The bolsa de estudo is the centrepiece of Portuguese student support, managed by DGES and paid through the institutions' social-action services. The reference maximum is 11 × IAS plus tuition (€6,444.50 in 2025/26): your grant is that reference minus your household's per-capita income, and never less than 125% of the tuition cap (€871.25). One BeOn application covers the bolsa, the housing complement and +Superior.
Quién tiene derecho
- Per-capita household income up to 23 × IAS (€12,017.50 per year in 2025/26)
- Enrolled in at least 30 ECTS of a CTeSP, licenciatura or mestrado — doctorates are excluded (FCT studentships apply instead)
- First enrollment at that study level, with progress requirements in later years
- Portuguese nationals; foreign students need permanent residence, long-term-resident or refugee status — ordinary temporary residence is not enough

Announced 22 May 2026 for 2026/27: the bolsa moves to a per-municipality real-cost-of-studying model, with the average grant estimated to rise more than 50% to about €2,660/year — the final despacho is still unpublished.
