Student health insurance (KVdS)
Studentische Krankenversicherung (KVdS) ·Administered by Gesetzliche Krankenkassen
Students in Germany get their own low statutory tariff, the KVdS. In 2026 it combines a base premium of €87.38, your insurer's supplementary contribution, and long-term-care insurance of €30.78 (under 23 or with a child) to €35.91 (childless, 23+) — landing at roughly €120–150 per month in total. Before that, most students are insured for free through their parents' family insurance, generally until 25. International students are covered on equal terms; for EU students the EHIC card may substitute.
