Huurtoeslag subsidises rent for lower incomes. The 2026 reform scrapped the hard maximum-rent limit, calculates on bare rent and ignores service costs — meaningfully more students qualify. The catch for students: shared rooms don't count, only self-contained units with own entrance, kitchen and toilet.

18 or older, renting self-contained housing and registered at the address
Income and assets within the (tapered) limits
Typical shared student rooms are not eligible
