The prêt étudiant garanti par l'État opens bank credit to students whose parents cannot stand as guarantors: the State, through Bpifrance, guarantees 70% of the loan (excluding interest), so the bank asks for no personal security and applies no income test. You can borrow up to €20,000 in total over 2 to 10 years, at the rate offered by the partner bank — La Banque Postale, CIC, Crédit Mutuel, Société Générale or BFCOI (mainly Réunion and Mayotte) — and defer capital repayment until the end of your studies.
Wer hat Anspruch
- Under 28 when the loan is signed
- Enrolled in a French higher-education institution
- French national, or EU/EEA citizen with 2 years of uninterrupted regular residence in France
- No means test, no parental or third-party guarantee
- €20,000 cap across all State-guaranteed student loans you take

Generate your pre-eligibility certificate on the Bpifrance platform (garantie-etudiant.bpifrance.fr), then take it to a partner bank, which decides on the loan itself.
