Basic grant (basisbeurs)
Basisbeurs ·Gestionada por Dienst Uitvoering Onderwijs (DUO)
The basisbeurs is the foundation of Dutch student finance, paid monthly by DUO to all eligible mbo (bol), hbo and wo students for the nominal duration of their program. It was reintroduced in September 2023 after eight loan-only years.
Quién tiene derecho
- Enrolled full-time or dual at an accredited mbo (bol), hbo or wo program
- Younger than 30 when your student finance starts
- Dutch nationality, or an equal-treatment category such as permanent residence or EU migrant-worker status (≥32 hours/month of paid work)
Cómo solicitarla
Apply through Mijn DUO with your DigiD, ideally at least 8 weeks before your program starts. Within a running academic year you can apply retroactively.

For hbo/wo and mbo 3/4 the grant is a prestatiebeurs: it becomes a gift only if you graduate within 10 years. Amounts re-index every 1 January (2026: +~€10/month).
