Housing aid (APL / ALS)

Aides au logement de la Caf (APL / ALS) ·Gestionada por Caisse d'allocations familiales (Caf)

Nearly every student tenant in France can claim monthly housing aid from the Caf. If your housing is covered by a State convention — most Crous residences and much social housing — you receive the APL; otherwise the ALS (or ALF with children). The amount follows a national formula based on your rent, the local zone and your own resources: your parents' income is not counted, whether or not you are a boursier. The aid is paid monthly, usually around the 5th, directly to you or your landlord.

Quién tiene derecho

  • Tenant, co-tenant or declared sub-tenant of housing that is your main residence (occupied at least 8 months a year)
  • No family link with the landlord
  • Own resources below the Caf ceilings — parental income is ignored
  • International students qualify with a valid residence permit
  • Caution: claiming it makes you independent for Caf purposes — your parents lose the family benefits linked to you

Cómo solicitarla

Apply online at caf.fr as soon as the lease is signed and you have moved in — the aid is not retroactive: rights open the month after your application.

Plazos: Apply as soon as you move in — rights open the month after the application, with no retroactivity
