Bildungskredit (federal education loan)

The Bildungskredit bridges the advanced phase of study — after the intermediate exam, with a completed bachelor's, or during a master's. The Federal Office of Administration decides, KfW pays out: €100, €200 or €300 per month for up to 24 months, plus an optional advance of up to €3,600. There is no means test, and it can be drawn on top of BAföG.
Who qualifies
- Advanced study phase: intermediate exam passed, bachelor's completed, or enrolled in a master's
- No means test — income and assets play no role
- Nationality rules analogous to § 8 BAföG
- Repayment starts 4 years after the first disbursement, at €120 per month

Apply online through the Bundesverwaltungsamt's Bildungskredit portal.
