Grant

Study allowance for higher education (Flanders)

Studietoelage hoger onderwijs (Vlaamse Gemeenschap) ·Administered by Vlaamse overheid — dienst Studietoelagen (AHOVOKS)

The studietoelage is the Flemish Community's main grant for higher education, decided by the government's Studietoelagen service. The amount scales with your enrolled credits and family income: for 60 credits in 2025-2026 it runs from a minimum of €332.24 to a full allowance of €3,085.91 — or €5,141.52 if you rent a kot (student room) — and an exceptional allowance of up to €6,922.36 for households living mainly on replacement income. It is paid in a single instalment, and entitlement automatically gives you the reduced beurstarief tuition.

Who qualifies

  • Enrolled with a diploma contract (at least 27 credits) in a recognized graduaat, bachelor, master, bridging or teacher-training programme in Flanders
  • Belgian nationality, or qualifying residence routes (e.g. long-term residence or work history)
  • Family income below the thresholds for your household's points; a cadastral-income test excludes families with substantial property besides the home
  • Kot students receive markedly higher full and exceptional amounts

How to apply

Apply online in the Studietoelagen digital counter (eID or itsme) at vlaanderen.be — you can tick an option letting the service reopen your file automatically in later years.

Deadlines: Apply no later than 1 June of the academic year (for 2025-2026: 1 June 2026)
