Student jobs: 650 hours at reduced contributions (Student@work)
Studentenarbeid met solidariteitsbijdrage — 650 uur (Student@work) ·Administered by RSZ / ONSS — Student@work
Belgium's federal student-work regime lets students work at sharply reduced social contributions: within an annual quota of 650 hours (up from 475 since 1 January 2025) you pay a solidarity contribution of just 2.71% of gross pay, your employer 5.42%, instead of the normal 13.07% employee contribution. Hours are counted per calendar year, spread however you like, and don't carry over. From hour 651 normal contributions apply. The My Student@work service and app show your remaining hours in real time, and the attestation code lets employers check your balance.
Who qualifies
- Student as your main status, with a written student employment contract (Dimona type 'STU')
- Work outside the periods when you must attend classes
- At most 650 hours per calendar year at the reduced rate — beyond that, normal 13.07% contributions
- Mind the knock-on limits for child benefit and tax dependency
How to apply
Nothing to apply for — your employer declares you as a student worker; check your remaining hours on studentatwork.be or the Student@work app (eID or itsme).
Recent & announced changes
The quota rose from 475 to 650 hours retroactively from 1 January 2025 (it was temporarily 600 in 2023-2024) and continues to apply in 2026.
