Allowance

School allowance via the Groeipakket (Flanders)

Schooltoeslag (Groeipakket, Vlaanderen) ·Administered by Groeipakket (Opgroeien en de uitbetalers)

The schooltoeslag is the income-tested school allowance folded into the Groeipakket, Flanders' family-benefit package. For school year 2025-2026 full-time secondary pupils receive between €286.04 and €1,626.66 a year, boarders between €739.51 and €2,277.51, and married, self-supporting or independent pupils up to €4,000.12. Your Groeipakket payer investigates the right and pays automatically between the end of August and December. Higher-education students fall under the separate studietoelage instead (with one exception: HBO5 basic-nursing students keep the schooltoeslag).

Who qualifies

  • Pupil in recognized Dutch-language education in Flanders or Brussels, from age 3 up to the school year in which the pupil turns 22
  • Family income below the Groeipakket thresholds — the lower the income, the closer to the maximum
  • Sufficient school attendance is required; the child must already receive the Groeipakket

How to apply

Nothing to apply for — the schooltoeslag is investigated and paid automatically by your Groeipakket payer between late August and December.

Deadlines: Automatic — paid between the end of August and December
